Probably
the most popular tour in the Cairngorms, if not in the whole of Scotland, is the
journey to Britain's second highest summit, Ben Macdui (1309m). Starting at the
Coire Cas car park (640m), at the alpine ski area, there are a number of routes
up. One point worth noting is that the route to Ben Macdui is superb in good weather, but many walkers have perished on the Cairngorm Plateau after getting lost in poor weather. The undulating nature of the plateau makes precise navigation difficult and the Coire Gorm cliffs of Coire an t-Sneachda and Coire an Lochain are ever willing to lure a unsuspecting soul over their edge. Before adventuring here make sure you are comfortable with your navigation ability and also have an up to date weather forecast or better still join a walkz.com group and let others do the hard work while you just enjoy the views. |
