Big Tick 23 The Ascent of Scafell |
|
![]() |
Scafell is England's second highest mountain and it is harder to climb than it's taller neighbor! There are at least 5 main routes up it and Walkz.com use three of them. The little blimp in the photo's top right is Symond's Knot which some may argue is a peak in it's own right, depending upon which mountain definitions you use. The little ridge connecting the two mountains (in the photograph center right) is Broad Stand and this is an accident blackspot. An easy seeming scramble/climb suddenly gets serious. I have even seen mountain rescue volunteers stationed here at peak times just waiting for the punters to get stranded. |
