Big Tick11 Blencathra via Sharp Edge |
|
|
Blencathra or 'Saddleback' is a tri summited huge ridge of a mountain on the right a few miles before Keswick as you travel from the M6. Sharp Edge is a well known 'Hairy' ascent of it's Eastern flank. The rock is worn smooth by the passage of thousands of our kind and when wet can be very slippery. Many deaths have been caused by such slips over the years so an ascent cannot be guaranteed by this route (I have turned back with my last three groups as I write) Given good conditions however the route is relatively easy, if you have a reasonable head for heights. |
